Shields Date Garden
You can’t visit the desert without trying a date shake, and Shields Date Garden is the classic place to get one. They’ve been growing and selling dates here since 1924.
Order a date shake at the cafe, then stroll the garden walk through the date palms. Don’t skip the little theater, where they still play the delightfully retro film The Romance and Sex Life of the Date. It’s charming and very old school Palm Springs.
Good to know
- Drive from our stays: about 20 minutes on Highway 111
- The cafe serves breakfast and lunch, and the date shakes are the star
- The shop sells many varieties of dates. Medjools are the classic.
- Gifts: date gift boxes travel well and make great souvenirs
Our tip: pick up a box of dates to snack on by the pool.
